Bluey is home, NOT a banned breed
Poor Bluey has been held since October 22nd on suspicion of being an unregistered XL Bully type dog. He was finally assessed by North Wales Police who declared him not a banned breed.
He was supposed to be returned 3 weeks ago but on the appointed day he didn’t arrive, his family has been so worried imagining all sorts had gone wrong. Finally they had news that he would be returned home today.
Whilst they are delighted to have Bluey home again, he is filthy, smelly and covered in sores. He has been to the vet this afternoon, the vet thinks the sores are possibly caused by stress, he has medication to help them heal.
Bluey’s owner thought they had registered him during the amnesty, payment had been taken by DEFRA, it was only when they sent the confirmation of neutering form in that DEFRA informed them the exemption hadn’t been registered.
His owners contacted the police for help. Initially they were told that Bluey wouldn’t be seized, he would be assessed at home by a Dog Legislation Officer and left there until court.
The police then contacted his owner to say they were seizing him as there is a 3 year old child at home, they perceived Bluey to be a potential risk to the child!
It is unconscionable that it has taken over 6 weeks to assess Bluey and return him. The family had tried to do everything right to keep Bluey safe. Whilst the outcome of him not being a banned breed is amazing, the extended time away has been detrimental to both Bluey and his family.
