NIPSY HAS BEEN ASSESSED AS NOT A BANNED BREED. We are a bit late posting this one, she was returned home last week. Her owner was contacted by the police at the beginning of December to say they had a report that she owned a banned breed, they informed her someone would call to seize Nipsy. As you can imagine, the whole month was fraught with worry, every knock on the door made them think she would be taken. Christmas was not the happy time it should have been. On December 30th the knock on the door was the one they dreaded, Nipsy was taken by the police. The family spent a whole week not knowing what would happen, then finally on January 7th she was returned as a free dog. Whilst we understand that reports of banned breeds need to be investigated, it's such a shame that assessments can't be carried out at home to reduce the stress on families and dogs. The 7 days kennel bill is paid from taxpayers money also.

🎉 Blu and Reggie are home 🎉 Both these dogs were seized in November 2023, they were accused of injuring another dog when they were being walked by their dog walker. The reality is that Blu and Reggie were the dogs who were injured, the other dog is known in the neighbourhood for being reactive to other dogs. The three dogs were in an alleyway near Blu and Reggie's home, the dog walker asked Blu and Reggie to sit for the other dog to pass, however, as they passed the other dog reacted to them. The police initially visited Blu and Reggie's owner and observed the dogs, he played with them and was happy to leave them at home. A few days later, late at night their owner was woken by police banging on her door, they seized both dogs. After being held for 13 months these two young dogs are back home, the court found the owner NOT GUILTY 🎉 Fortunately neither dog has been affected by their ordeal, they are still loving and well behaved. Welcome home boys ❤️
🎉 Lyla is coming home 🎉 Lyla was in court today, we are delighted that she has been granted exemption. Her owner was only told at the beginning of this week that her case was through the civil route, meaning no legal aid was available, there was no time to do fundraising for legal representation. We advised Lyla's owner on what to say in court if a duty solicitor wasn't available. North Yorkshire police advised they remained neutral, leaving it up to the magistrates to decide if Lyla would be exempt or destroyed. Lyla was seized at the beginning of October after she briefly escaped a new property the family had moved to days before. She jumped into her neighbours front garden which caused alarm to the neighbours. The neighbours adult son, who was present at the time wrote quite a damning statement about the fear it would cause if this type of dog were allowed to return home to live next door. Fortunately, the magistrates were able to see that Lyla's family are responsible owners, measures are in place to prevent her escaping again and the rear garden is fully secure. The police had no concerns about Lyla's behaviour and her owners had statements from people who knew her to be a good dog. Lyla will be returned home once she is neutered and the paperwork for DEFRA is completed ❤️

Have you had any involvement with Bleu? He's only 15 months old and has already had several owners, he's lived in Yorkshire, Berkshire, Kent, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire areas of the UK. Did you meet him? If so did you have sole handling of him at any time? Did a previous owner ask you to hold the lead while they popped into a shop, did you take him for a walk, or sit with him? He has been typed as a Pit Bull by Wiltshire police, his only hope of survival is if someone with previous physical care and control of him is willing to attend court and become his registered keeper. All costs would be met for anyone willing to step forward for Bleu. Please share to reach as many people as possible, you never know who may see this and realise that they know Bleu. To be able to save Bleu, as well as having previously cared for him, no matter how briefly, you must also be a 'fit and proper person' so no significant criminal history. You must have a secure address, if rented your housing provider must allow banned breeds, if you have a garden it must be secure with 6ft fences or walls. Due to him being a young dog only older children, he is dog friendly but playful. You must allow the police to inspect your home to ensure it is suitable. An independent assessment is being arranged for Bleu, even if he's found not Pit Bull type this will have to be argued in court with a prospective new owner present to accept the exemption conditions if the court agree with the police findings.
*** UPDATE *** Cola's Dad has been shown all your lovely comments by his support worker today, he is overwhelmed by everyone's kindness, he thought as he was homeless no-one would care about him and Cola. More paperwork was given to Cola's solicitors by the police prosecution, 4 hours after the hearing! The case has been listed for a full hearing on May 21st, although it's quite some time away, Cola will now have a full independent assessment to report on her behaviour and also whether she is actually an XL Bully. 🍀 Good luck Cola 🍀 This is such a sad story of an owner down on his luck and a dog who is the most important thing he's ever had in his life. Cola belongs to a homeless man, she is well trained, including already muzzle trained, her owner is well thought of and well supported in the community, neither have caused fear or injury to anyone. Her owner was arrested for sleeping on the streets in West Yorkshire, as a consequence Cola was seized and subsequently typed as a banned breed. This almost led to her owner ending his life but his fantastic support team have kept him going. Her owner has got himself clean and now has housing ready for Cola's return. However, at the 11th hour the police have stated Cola is displaying 'aggression' in kennels, the hearing is tomorrow so there's no time to have an independent assessment carried out. Dogs often become fearful and stressed in kennels, this needs to be taken into account, especially for dogs which were previously impeccably behaved. Please send all your luck and positive thoughts for Cola and her Dad at court tomorrow. We will continue to support with advice if an appeal is needed, this case is covered by legal aid so no donations have been requested so far 🍀

🎉 HONEY HAS BEEN GRANTED EXEMPTION 🎉 Honey was seized by Gwent police last September, she was seized as a suspected unregistered XL Bully. Once she was assessed by a Dog Legislation Officer she was classed as a Pit Bull type dog, her owner was happy to accept that and go through the court system to get her home again. The family were in court today and are over the moon that Honey is allowed to return home as an exempt dog. Once all the paperwork is completed and she is neutered she will be back with the humans who have missed her so much ❤️
💔 RIP HANK 💔 This is yet another young, healthy dog, just two years old, who has died whilst in Lancashire police 'care'. Hank was seized at the beginning of December, he was subsequently assessed as an XL Bully. His owner was delighted when she contacted us on Sunday, Hank had been assessed as a good dog, the police had also visited her and declared she was a responsible owner, everything was looking positive. Yesterday she contacted us at 10.45 am, the police had just visited her to say Hank had an infection which they were struggling to treat. We instructed her to ask for the Interim Exemption Scheme on welfare grounds, both Hank and his Mum had passed assessments. The interim scheme was refused. We then instructed her to ask to see all vet and kennel records for the month Hank had been in the approved kennels. The police then informed her that Hank had been put to sleep at 2.45 pm they now claim he had cancer! This doesn't add up, no health concerns were raised last Sunday when the police gave the news that both dog and owner were low risk, in the morning yesterday Hugo had an infection, by the afternoon he had cancer....this is the 4th sudden and suspicious death of dogs seized by Lancashire police. Hank's Mum has demanded a full Post Mortem but now the police are not answering her calls. We also know from previous cases that his Mum will still be prosecuted for owning a banned breed, even though her dog has died. Lancashire Police please give the owner answers, at least have the decency to return her calls, Hank and his family do not deserve to be ignored. If you live in the Lancashire police force area, please contact your MP and ask them to question this police force on the welfare of seized dogs. They clearly fall well below the standard of care these dogs deserve
🌈 RIP Chicco 🌈 Many of you will remember the case of The Trio a few years ago. All three dogs, Chicco, Lucious and Wrinkles were seized as suspected Pit Bull type dogs by West Yorkshire Police. It was very clear to all that they didn't fit the proportional measurements and appearance of a Pit Bull type dog and their owner agreed to challenge the police. Orion Dog Services, Mike Barnett carried out an independent assessment of all 3 dogs and found them all not type, there followed a very lengthy fight through the court system. Wrinkles was released early, Lucious and Chicco remained with the police for over two years! Eventually we had news that Chicco, who was a senior dog then, was unlikely to survive until release as his health had deteriorated so much in kennels. Eventually the case was won, all three dogs were found not banned breeds and they could all live as free dogs without restrictions. Chicco began to flourish again back with his owner, a warm soft bed and good quality food along with love and attention was all he needed. Chicco passed away peacefully last night at the grand age of 14, we are sad to hear of his passing, however he outlived all expectations, determined to spend his last years enjoying the good things in life that he'd been deprived of for the two years he spent in police approved kennels.
Happy New Year 🎊 Part 2 Part 2 of the dogs you all helped return home in 2024, part 1 is posted separately, there are too many for one video 🎉 It's been a year like no other, we have been inundated with messages from worried owners, at times there were more messages than we could answer, we occasionally have to focus on the urgent messages about dogs seized rather than general questions. We have welcomed some new admin to help with the volume of dogs seized, thank you to all the team who give up endless hours, without pay to assist in as many cases as possible. Thank you also to Four Legs Law - part of Ison Harrison Solicitors for continuing to really care about the dogs, giving us a very favourable fixed price for our cases and putting the dogs first. Thank you also to the many barristers we have used, particularly Cathryn McGahey KC for her pro bono work and Sam Marsh for setting a precedent at the Royal Courts of Justice which has already helped other dogs home. Thank you also to Helen Howell Dog Behaviour Expert for always being on hand to advise although she's not doing assessments currently, she gives so much of her time without charge to help us. Orion Dog Services, Mike Barnett for looking at so many dogs for us, assessing type dogs and successfully getting dogs returned at court hearings. Bethany Long - Dog Expert Witness for her amazing assessments for both behaviour and breed, her reports have saved many dogs at court hearings. Lastly thank you to all of you supporters, without you we couldn't exist. We have been given amazing donations from so many of you, beautiful prizes to raise funds, gorgeous items for our auctions and incredible support when funds are needed. We hope you all have a happy and healthy 2025
